Biography

Serving Others

My name is Melissa Ramoso and I am a public servant and community advocate.  I’m an active Artesia resident and proud former Gahr Gladiator.

My passion for service comes from my immigrant parents. My mother is a retired county nurse and my father is a US Army veteran and retired postal worker. Both were members to their unions at their time of service, SEIU 1099 and the American Postal Workers Union. I was raised to believe that government should help make people's lives better. I have also always held myself to the highest ethical standards.

For 23 years, I have represented federal and state legislators in serving their constituents. Currently, I am District Director to Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi where I coordinate a district office to help residents voice their opinions, access resources, and improve their communities. Previously, I was senior staff to United States Congressman Ted Lieu.

  • Balanced city budgets for eight straight years making fiscally prudent decisions.

  • Strengthened partnership with exceptional city employees to improve and expand city services.

  • Worked to make City Hall more transparent via the city website and accessible through in-person services with a mobile reporting application in the near future.

  • Delivered green bike lanes for incoming bike riders to enhance public safety on Norwalk Boulevard and 166th Street.

  • While Mayor in 2022, advocated for the restriping of Pioneer Blvd. and it was finally accomplished in 2023.

  • During the pandemic, initiated an eviction moratorium, mental health services, a fee cap on delivery-based apps, and a business assistance program.

  • Initiated and asked for a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) in 2023 and for every project to be listed on the city’s website so that residents can follow their progress. This has now been completed in 2026.

  • Initiated an e-bike ordinance to hold guardians accountable to minors who are not abiding by the law with e-bikes or using out of class motor vehicles.

As Mayor Pro Tem, I work together with residents, community groups, local businesses, and public safety first responders. Together, over the past eight years we accomplished much to improve the quality of life and safety in our city.

While much has been achieved, there's more that remains to be done. I respectfully ask for your vote so we can continue to do the people's work.
